Hey…here are some ideas for you

  • The powder room was in need of a refresh. It was one of our first projects after we purchased our home.  The finishes were dated and it lacked the clean, simple look I gravitate towards.

Since this is a small space, and a room guests see, I wanted to make updates that felt intentional without spending a fortune. The goal was to keep everything neutral (my go‑to, especially when thinking about resale) while making the room feel brighter, fresher, and more modern.

Here’s what we updated (purchased items from Lowe’s, Target, and Amazon):

    Vanity

    • I loved this natural oak vanity from Lowes, it was under $500 and comes fully assembled.

    Vanity mirror

    • I found this 30×22 rectangle, black matte, mirror for under $30 on Amazon.

    Wall Sconces

    • I wanted sconces that were black and gold and found these sconces on Amazon. It is a set of 2, which I purchased the 15.94 in hardwired, black and gold color.

Towel hook & Toilet paper holder

    Wall Shelf

    • Easy to install, 24×6 matte black wood wall shelf under $40

    Bathroom rug

    • I purchased the rug from Ruggable, but it’s no longer in stock.

Even though these were all small changes on their own, together they completely transformed the room. The space now feels lighter, more welcoming, and much more aligned with the rest of our home’s style, all while staying budget‑friendly and neutral enough for future resale.

  • When we bought our home, we knew the family room had great potential – it just needed a little love. The space felt dated, a bit cold, and lacked the depth and warmth we wanted for the room we spend the most time in together. We weren’t looking to do a full renovation or spend a fortune, but we did want to make a few intentional updates that would make the room feel more inviting.

The first thing we tackled was the ceiling light. The original fixture was outdated and didn’t add anything to the space, so replacing it instantly made the room feel more modern. From there, we focused on adding layers and warmth through decor (updating pillows, throw blankets, ottoman, artificial tree, etc.)

None of these updates were major or expensive, but together they made the room feel cozier, more intentional, and much more “us.” It’s amazing how a few small changes can transform a space without needing a full makeover. Here are a few things we purchased to help achieve the look.

    Lighting fixture

    • I wanted to choose something modern, but something that wouldn’t feel too ‘trendy’ either. I went with the black finish of this dimmable fixture.

    Fireplace mantel

    • The finish of this mantel was exactly what I was looking for and the quality is great for the price.

    Area rug

    • This rug is great with kids – it’s washable and durable and has not faded over time.

    Blanket Ladder

    • I found this great blanket ladder on Amazon, which I purchased in the brown color. It was easy to assemble!

    Throw Blankets

    • I was looking for specific color blankets to go with the room, but also wanted something that was good quality (consdering pets/kids). I did choose these sweater knit 70″x55″ throw blankets from Crate & Barrel. These blankets are under $150 each. For colors, I chose chestnut beige and cream white. (It is recommended to dry clean these, but I have been washing them on a delicate cycle and they have held up just fine!)

    Couch pillows

    • I did splurge a little on pillows because I wanted something that looked nice, but durable with kids (and washable).
      • I ordered four covers from West Elm (you will need inserts too). I went with  these pillow covers – 20×20 size, camel color.
      • For the other four pillow covers (you will also need inserts for this too), I purchased these from Crate & Barrel – 20×20, sierra tan color.

    Artificial tree

    • I wanted something “natural” looking and this olive tree was recommended to me – it ended up being perfect!
      • This 12.6″ diameter plant pot fits the tree nicely (I chose the weathered concrete style)
      • I purchased 2 of the 4 oz. moss

    Ottoman

    • We are working with a smaller space, but I needed to add some seating options. I found the Auburn Ottoman (set of 2, color is velvet juniper) at West Elm.

    Coffee Table

    Coffee table decor

    • I’ve had my eye on a few coffee table books, but some are so expensive! I opted for these:
      • You can get this book for under $50 (neutral color, hardcover)
      • This book also runs under $50 (neutral color, hardcover)
    • For coasters, I opted for these simple, black coasters from Target. You can get a 4-pack for under $20.
    • I wanted a little bit of a larger candle, and found one from Hearth & Hand (cream color, light scent – sea salt)

  • Our kids — one boy and one girl — currently share a room, and we finally decided it was time for a little upgrade. Their old setup wasn’t working anymore, and we wanted to create a space that felt more functional, gave them more room to play, and allowed them to grow into it over the next few years.

While they won’t share a room forever, the reality is that the next 2–3 years will still be spent together. So instead of fighting the space, we leaned into it and made it work for them.

We also made sure to involve them in the process. They each got to choose colors they loved, and we found ways to blend their styles without the room feeling mismatched or chaotic.

Each item is linked below for purchase (Amazon, Target, IKEA):

    Furniture

    Bedding

    Wall art

    • I found prints on Etsy and used my existing frames (the frames are no longer available, but I went with a natural wood color)
    • Bulletin Board (LOVE this – easy to install and no nails are required. I went with the Oatmeal color)
      • I also purchased these cute wooden push pins so the kids can hang artwork, homework, etc.)

    Miscellaneous items

    Bathroom decor

    • Rug for underneath sink (21×24, white)
    • Rug for outside of the shower (17×28 is the perfect size, beige & cream color)
    • Toothbrush holder

    Drawer organizers

    • I needed to help keep the drawers organized so the kids could easily find things – these organizers were so helpful!
